Most people would have thought this to be a quick repair, since this was a natural disaster and it couldnt be left to just run, right? Well, today is day 62 of the oil spill, and it is still leaking. This Gulf oil spill is the fourth major spill to occur in the Gulf of Mexico in the last 50 years. Every other one was able to be cleaned up, yet we can’t seem to stop this oil slick from reaching the shore. The spill covers more than 4,000 square miles of ocean surface, which is over ten times the area of New York City. It threatens the coasts of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. There are many volunteers trying to stop the oil from hitting these coasts, but how long c an that last? I, personally, approve of off-shore drilling, but we need to have precautions set up to keep things like this from happening. This is hurting wildlife, as well as the industries to fish for shrimp in the area. I think that BP needs to cap this well soon, because we can’t just leave it the way it is.
